about-usLocated 8 km from the Perth CBD, in the heart of the western suburbs, Mount Claremont Primary School (formerly known as Graylands Primary School) opened in 1917. The school name changed to Mount Claremont from the start of 2007, the year in which it celebrated its 90th birthday. In 2017 the school celebrated 100 years of public school education. The school currently serves from three main intake areas – Mt Claremont to the north, west and east, Claremont to the south and Swanbourne to the west.

The Department of Education Strategic Plan for WA Public Schools and Focus 2023 provides a framework for the school.

The Kindergarten to year 2 classes provide engaging curriculum programs reflecting the outcomes of the National Early Years Learning Framework and the National Quality Standard for Early Childhood Education. The teaching programs from Kindergarten to Year 6 are supported by the Western Australia Curriculum and Assessment Outline. There is a strong focus on the education and care of every student in an inclusive and supportive learning environment. The school has a dedicated science lab. The school’s vibrant music program includes; instrumental tuition for brass and clarinet, the school choir performs regularly at school assemblies and at external events. Students receive specialist teacher instruction in music, art, physical education. Japanese is the language provided for students from years 3-6. The school boasts an integrated environmental program which includes vegetable gardens, worm farms and composting.

Community support of the school and its educational programs is very strong and the Parents and Citizens’ Association (P&C) is a dynamic force in the school. The School Board is an informed body overseeing the school’s Strategic Plan. The School Board includes parents and staff who are involved in making wide ranging decisions that impact positively on the school. There are strong community partnerships with the Claremont Farmers Market, Camp Australia’s out of school hours care program ,  Youthcare Chaplaincy Program and Defence School Mentor Program . The school hosts a Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC) centre for the North Metropolitan Education Region. All classrooms are air conditioned, networked with multimedia teaching facilities and technologies. The school has developed grounds including; multi-purpose hard courts, an oval, undercover area and extensive playgrounds.
