Students from pre-primary to year 6 engage in a minimum of 2 hours of physical activity through morning fitness, specialist physical education lessons, senior sport and events. Kindergarten and pre-primary students focus on fundamental movement skills and school events.
Faction Houses
There are 3 Faction Houses- Boogalla (Blue), Nyanda (Red) and Wambiri (Gold). Students from family groups will be placed in the same faction. Teachers from different year levels are assigned to a faction.
Swimming and athletics carnivals are held during the school year (in school and interschool).
Cross Country Running/ Running Club
In Term 2 all Year 3-6 students compete in the faction cross country carnival held at Mt Claremont Oval. Selected students then represent our school at the Interschool Cross Country carnival.
As preparation for these cross country events, students are welcome to participate in Running Club, which runs before school two mornings a week. This is a great way for students to have fun and stay fit with their friends.
Lightning Carnival
A winter sport competition that happens in Term 2 for students between Year 4-6 in the sports of Hockey, Soccer, Netball and Aussie Rules Football. Mount Claremont Primary School competes against other local primary schools.
Faction Athletics Carnival
During Term 3 the Faction Athletics Carnival is held on Mt Claremont Oval. It involves students from PP- Year 6, but also offers some fun events for kindy students, parents can join in the fun too as part of our students/parent/teacher baton relay. There is also the Faction Jumps & Throws carnival for students in Year 3-6. During the athletics period students in Year 3-6 may participate in athletics training after school two days a week, selected students will also have the chance to represent our school at the Interschool Athletics Carnival.
Faction Swimming Carnival
During term 1 the Senior Swimming Faction Carnival is held at the Claremont Aquatic Centre for students from Years 3 to 6. During term 1 the P&C and parents organise after school swimming training at Claremont Pool. Students may be selected to compete in the Interschool Swimming Carnival at Challenge Stadium following participation in the Faction Carnival. The Junior Swimming Carnival is held in term 4
In-term Swimming Lessons
Students from Pre-primary to Year 6 participate in ten, 45 minute swimming lessons organised and run by trained swimming teachers at a Claremont Aquatic Centre during school hours. Depending upon pool availability lessons usually take place in term 4. Tuition is free but parents are required to pay for transport and pool entry.
Dance
Students from pre-primary to year 6 participate in a social dance program conducted by Edu Dance. For up to 45 minutes each week during term 2, the students learn a variety of dances and this culminates in a concert at the final session.
